September WordPress contributions

With the leaves falling and changing colour this month of September has closed. Earlier in that month I wrote a reflection as I wrapped up my focus on default themes. This post wraps up the month just gone.

It was a slower month with actually taking some time off during it to recharge and think during conversations what I do want to focus on and where I am going to be most effective.

Sponsorship this month

In total I now have 3 sponsors through GitHub. First, thank you Aaron Jorbin for being a yearly sponsor. Next, thank you to the following sponsors who are monthly sponsors:

I now have $85.00 sponsorship a month which is an incredible start. Thank you so very much it means a lot to have people sponsor me.

A special thanks this month to the WP Community Collective and GoDaddy for offering a stipend fund to leads and co-leads during the contribution day who were self-funding. This was unexpected and meant a lot to many.

Want to sponsor me? You can through GitHub or also get in touch.

Areas of contribution

My contribution this month was focused on a few areas:

  • Clearing up: patches within the bundled default themes and wrapping up my contribution focus there.
  • TT5: contributing in patterns and testing.
  • WP 6.7: testing and unblocking anything asked.
  • WCUS: contribution day as co-lead of theme table and conversations.

October plans

Here is a list in no particular order of what I plan to focus on this coming month:

  • WP 6.7: testing and support as needed.
  • ‘Interface triage’: building on from my work with bundled themes I want to go across components, styling and see what are tickets to move on the admin interface. This then helps with the work needed for admin refresh by clearing the ground including our older CSS tickets.
  • Advancing the design system: see how I can get involved in this project more after conversations at WCUS.
  • Component triage: I am maintainer of a bundled themes and media, I want to work in at least a half day a month to triage of the repos I am maintainer on.
  • Editor repo triage: Similar to components, I’ve fallen out of practice triaging the editor repo and want to get back into being there at least a few hours a month.

There are some other things I would like to explore if have time but these are side quests for this month:

  • Continue work on Archivist: the community theme that will have styles based on default themes.
  • Experiment what elements of the admin refresh could be adopted today in a plugin. I talked about this at WCUS and want to collaborated to explore this.

Sponsorship this month

As of today, the paid sponsorship time I have is:

  • 1 day / month : my own 5FTF contribution.
  • $85.00 which I will put towards 2 hours work.

This means as of today I have nearly 1 1/2 days paid sponsorship covered for the month. There is always sponsorship of course that is volunteered and I’ll do as much as possible whilst still keeping things flowing – let’s get contributing!
